A massive (1300 pp. 11.5" x 9.75" x 2.5" ) and exhaustive popular history of The State of Oregon covering Topography, Geology, Climate, Indians, Earliest Discoveries, Overland Explorations, Rival Claims, First American Settlement, Missions, Immigrations, Provisional Government, The Territorial Era, Statehood, Indian Wars, and an up to date (1893) look at major cities. Many anecdotes of early settlers, both individuals, families and communities. Thirty-three mostly photographic illustrations., each protected by fully intact tissue guard, SOME of which have been traced upon by an idle pencil of yore. Last two blank pages "feature" children's stick-figure drawing. Page-edges lightly age-tanned. No foxing. Handsome tooled full leather with beveled edges. Beautiful, textured gilt-on-royal purple, floral patterned endpapers. All edges gilt. A few edge-worn and edge-torn pages. Old paper tape repair to front free endpaper. Several pages of the list of family biographies have been replaced by facsimile photocopies, with pages closely color-matched. Exceedingly scarce,Very tight binding.
