Frontipiece (with tissue guard) black and white photo of the author stading next to the "Columbus Tree" plus 21 other black and white captioned photos throughout. blue encpapers. Orange cloth with the title in black on a read field ont he front cover and the spine. Just touches of wear to extremities, cloth clean, colors bright, all photos present and in fine condition, tissue guard intact, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. A tattered dust jacket has been backed with stiff craft paper by a previous owner, but this has protected the book itself well! John Vanderveer Deuel was taken aboard the "Samona" as interpreter and radio operator. They left San Pedro, CA, and sailed down the coast of Mexico, through the Panama Canal, along the northern coast of South American, several hundred miles up the Orinosco River and, during their return, stopped at nearly all the islands of the West Indies and as far north as Florida, finally returning to California having cruised 14,000 miles and called at eight-odd ports.
