marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, xv+473; prev.owner's sm.gilt label fr.pastedown, fr.gutter cracked but secure, however, turn-overs of leather used in rebacking have lifted at gutter ends leaving them a tad unsightly, esp.at bottom where an early bookseller's sm.label has been lifted and crumpled along with end of gilt-decorated tooled orig.leather turn-over, ends of rear gutter similarly affected and gutter itself open due I imagine to back board having been detached prior to rebinding. Orig. dark tooled leather leather binding was of quite high quality with diagonal 'net' tooling, gilt borders, dentelled edges & gilt dec. sp.panel ridges, at some point (quite early I think, it was rebound and rebacked with sp. laid down on a reddish leather, orig. sp.ends chipped and red leather visible along both joints and at sp.ends; otherwise clean with only sl.rubbing to corners, top 3.5. cms of back cover sunfaded. Despite faults this remains a quite attractive copy of a late edition of Abercrombie's early 19th cent. bestseller.
