8vo. (24 cm.) [13]4-255[5]p. fOREWORD BY lEWIS gANNETT. Frontispiece black and white photo of Ishi plus 62 other black and white captioned photos. Tan cloth with letters in red. Very minor wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, cloth lightly soiled, previous owner's neatly printed last name on front free endpaper (Lazier), all photos in find condition, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. This book tells the story of Ishi, the last member of the lost tribe of Yana, who wandered out of the hills of California on August 29, 1911, and was taken in by anthropologists at the University of California where he spent the last years of his life. An extraordinary historical account. Theodora Kroeber was the wife of the great anthropologist, Alfred Louis Kroeber, one of those who took Ishi in. Bookseller Inventory # 006718
