About this Item

Generally Considered One of O'Neill's Greatest Plays, and Probably the One Most Frequently Revived in Major Productions. An unusually strong copy of this landmark drama, which along with "Long Day's Journey Into Night," is considered O'Neill's greatest work. First edition stated, 260 numbered pages. The book is bound in textured blue cloth with O'Neill's signature stamped in gold on the front panel. The spine is also gold foil-stamped, with the title stamped in gold in a box with gold borders and a red foil background. The top edge is stained dark red, unfaded. The DJ has a solid gray background, and the back panel has a sketch of O'Neill by Mai-mai Sze, and an ad for Random House's three volume set of the playwright's works. The front flap has a price tag of $2.75 at the top. The DJ is unusually strong; on most copies the DJ is fragile, given to rubbing and tearing. This one is whole, unchipped, bro-darted and with very minor signs of rubbing along the spine and edges. There is a visible narrow stain running down most of the length of the front panel near the spine, but it does not obscure any of the letters (VG +). . The white background on the rear panel has some natural soiling, but is whole and unrubbed. The previous owner's signature is discreetly written in ink underneath the front flyleaf. The binding is strong and tight. Bookseller Inventory # 20067
