12th November 1914. 4to (22.5 X17.5 cm). Blue green lined notebook; some wear and minor loss to ends of spine and corners; front cover with border tooling. Collation: 183, [3] pp. Text with a number of color drawings of shells and other explosives, often in longitudinal section. Few blank pages present between sections. The text covers different types of explosives, their composition and characteristics and how they should be stored. were used in fuzes of projectiles, shells and tubes. There are external and cut away drawings of different shells and tubes have all markings and parts drawn in exact detail. This is important in identifying and defusing explosives. Grenades, rifle and hand, are treated separately. Tables, some of which are on tipped in folded sheets of blue paper. The author whose name is difficult to discern on the front free end paper has provided the reader with extensive treatment of explosives, shells, tubes and grenades used by the British in WWI. A Treatise on Ammunition , 7th edition was published in1902 with text prepared by Instructional staff of the Ordnance College, Woolwich. This manuscript dated 12 Nov. 1914 appears to be an unpublished set of notes, most likely, used for instruction of students on how to identify many different forms of ordnance presently in use by British army during WWI.
