About this title

Synopsis:

There are over 70 communities in the state of Georgia named for foreign locations. The author traveled to them all, under the pseudonym "Odyfferus" researched the history of the naming and found ironic things to photograph which connect them, sometimes in humorous ways. There are pyramids in Cairo, a lake in Geneva, a library in Ephesus, and even a barber in Seville, the last remaining business in the fading town. Based on Homer's Odyssey, if but barely, this is an entertaining yet educational study of the Empire State of the South as we follow Odyfferus around from hamlet to hamlet (not a reference to Shakespeare). Erudite architectural photographer Harlan Hambright views the world from a unique perspective making connections that have never been observed before (perhaps because they do not exist, but that's another matter).

About the Author:

Harlan Hambright has been an architectural photographer since his 1976 graduation from the University of Tennessee School of Architecture. Based in Washington, DC through the entire decade of the 1980s, he moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia in 1990 where he remains. He is a partner with H2O Creative Group, a full service ad agency in Brunswick, Georgia.
