About this title
An Illustrated History of the Great Western Narrow Gauge is the latest installment in the popular Illustrated Histories series covering the Welsh narrow gauge lines. Following the huge success of both the Welsh Highland Railway and Snowdon Mountain Railway, this new addition is set to be a hit among rail enthusiasts. The GWR owned three of the great narrow gauge railways of Wales. All three of the lines have a fascinating history and all are now in whole or in part preserved. The book includes descriptive text outlining the history of the narrow gauge lines alongside hundreds of illustrations, many of which have never been seen.About the Author:
Peter Johnson is a specialist in the history of Welsh narrow-gauge railways and an accomplished railway author and journalist. He has contributed many significant railway histories to the Ian Allan Publishing list, the latest being An Illustrated History of the Travelling Post Office and An Illustrated History of the Welsh Highland Railway. He was the editor of the Festiniog Railway Magazine for many years and was a member of the team that obtained the Welsh Highland Railway Transport & Works Order, the essential legal sanction to the WHRAEs reconstruction. He now writes a regular column on narrow-gauge railways in Steam Railway magazine, also regularly providing features. He is a prolific photographer and his articles and books are illustrated with many of his own photographs. He currently lives in Leicester.
