About this Item

I suppose this is also a timetable, the train ran once a week, but this is a description of the train, the route, the incredible cities it stopped in, and a snapshot of British life and rule in the early 20th century Imperial India. Book is 100 pages long, each measuring 9 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches, insides are as pictured, blue tone illustrations, red borders and black type is standard. Needless to say, or perhaps not, this book is quite rare. Book starts with a description of the train, parlour cars, diners, sleepers; and makes the point up front, for those of us who have suffered through Indian Steam trains in the hot, sweaty, cinder filled misery of the hot season, this is all together different. The pleasure of this read, is the city by city section, mingling culture, history and modern life for our reading pleasure. Note slight wear around the very edges, else the book is near perfect, no marks, perfectly tight and straight. Published by G.L.Colvin, agent for the East Indian Railway, printed at the Railway's Press, Strand Street, Calcutta. No Date, est. 1912-1916. Bookseller Inventory # 000321
