About this title:

Synopsis: The New York Times called Polutanovich's writing, "eloquently steamy." The London Financial Times says she is "evocative." Impermanent is a book of the classic themes – death, love, religion, and sex – but written in the unconventional voice of this questing female protagonist. The narrator of Impermanent: How I Became a Loveless, Trailer Park Nomad takes you through the first twenty four years of an unusual life, from the narrator’s birth in the U.P. of Michigan, to trailer parks in Maryland and West Virginia, all the way to living in shacks and busses in the mystic mountains of New Mexico – with several states in between. Along the way, the narrator deals with issues of fundamentalist religion, economic class, death and illness, sexuality, and relationships – earnestly parsing through each event with a delicate balance of tenderness, a quirky sense of humor, and unflinching honesty. Via the unique structure, this book asks the same question that is posed by modern psychology: how and why does a life unfold as it does? And, ultimately, it also asks the primary question of the poet and mystic: what kind of life does a person try to create once they understand that, at any moment, it could end? “Impermanent: How I Became a Loveless, Trailer Park Nomad is funny where it shouldn’t be, a little weird most everywhere else, and tender in between.” –The Author

About the Author: Cynthia Polutanovich is also the author of a book of poems, Two Birds and a Wolf. In 2010, She received her M.F.A. from Hunter College in NYC. October 2013, For the Sins I Can Remember, a play she co-wrote will open at the IRT Theater in the West Village. She spent much of the past two years living in a tent on a mountaintop, is currently in New York City, and, if all goes well, she hopes to be in either Poland or Bulgaria by the spring.
