Elmer Lawrence Corthell (1840-1916), a civil engineer, was active as a consulting engineer on railway, bridge, hydroelectric, irrigation, jetty, levee, and other projects in the U.S., Latin America and Europe. He had an office in New York City from the 1870s until 1916. He was the author of A History of the Jetties at the Mouth of the Mississippi River. Scarce: OCLC shows only one copy though without naming the institution. OCLC: 36241986 Removed from a larger volume, spine shellacked, else a very good copy, author's compliments tipped into title, contents and diagrams lightly soiled, faint fold.
