Lithograph. Page measures 16" x 22" This double-page print, sketched from life by G.W. Peters on board the U.S. Trassport "Newport", was published in the Aug 13, 1898 issue of Harper's Weekly. The subtitle reads "General Merritt responding to the Toast "Our Country and Our President" at the Independence Day Dinner on the Steamer "Newport". In very good condition, with small chips and tears to edges, not affecting the image. Text on verso. Harper's Weekly was a New York-based illustrated political magazine published from 1857 until 1916. The magazine featured foreign and domestic news, fiction, essays on many subjects.
