From the Foreword Brigadier Gen. M. Atiq Ur Rahman and Mr. M.A. Taher two eminent photographers of Bangladesh had been planning this pictorial book for a long time. They were inspired to bring out a pictorial book depicting the lives and customs of the twelve tribal peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts by more than one reason. In the all pervasive globalization process of today many indigenous peoples all over the world are fast losing their characteristic features and adapting new ways of life. They are adapting themselves to cultures which were once alien to them. This has not been always bad nor has it been an unmixed blessing. Whatever it may be one cannot help regretting the passing away of many colourful dresses ornaments hair styles social religious and cultural festivals and the special kind of innocence that characterizes all indigenous peoples of the world. This loss is taking place here too and in the near future many elements of the indigenous people of the Chittogong Hill Tracts will be lost beyond recovery. A photographic documentation therefore of these features is of great importance from historical as well as sociological point of view. 200 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 73940
