Autograph inscribed photograph (b/w, 10 x 8 inch) "To my good friends Ann & Clarence Nelson 'two regular guys' Julian Klein. University City, Cal. Feb, 1935". Photo likely relates to the promotion of a postage stamp issue and shows Klein sitting on a desk displaying a copy of Whitler's Mother painting, also displaying a small 3 cent postage stamp bearing the same image (issued May 2, 1934). The one page typed letter (7 1/4 x 10 1/2 inch) with Klein's public relations letterhead dated May 26, 1950. In the letter Klein's expresses shock at the learning of Clarence Nelson's wife's death and that he will try to see him when KIein goes to the west coast. Signed Julian. Major General Julius Klein (1901-1961) served as an American spy in Germany during WWI, saw action in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war he became an advocate for the creation of the state of Israel. In private life he wrote for the newspapers, and was involved in movies and radio while operating his own public relations firms. Bookseller Inventory # 10234
