American composer who based operas on North American Indian themes, perhaps best remembered today for his 1908 song "From the Land of Sky-Blue Water" (sometimes mistakenly assumed to be the basis for the Hamm's Beer jingle that used these same words, though the tune they borrowed came from Victor Herbert). IPS [Moffett], 8" X 10", n.p., n.d. [dated on verso 1927 May 9 in another hand]. Inscribed to John Leiser. Fine. Nice inscription in purple ink on a light portion of a striking portrait in profile. Also signed in red by the photographer, MOFFETT. Together with an AMuQS, 1p, 9¼" X 9¼", n.p. [Los Angeles, CA], n.d. [1927 June 27]. Very good. Bold and handsome. One full page of words and music from "Spring Song of the Robin Woman / from 'Shanewis'," Cadman's 1918 Indian opera. With original envelope addressed in Cadman's hand to pianist John Leiser and signed at upper left. This IPS and AMuQS have been beautifully and archivally double matted side by side and framed in a 1" wood-and-gilt frame (overall dimensions 22½" X 15") under ultraviolet-filtering glass. (The envelope is displayed on the verso.) A gorgeous presentation. Bookseller Inventory # 15262
