About the Author: Edmund Heeryis Professor of Industrial Relations at Cardiff Business School and has written extensively on aspects of work and employment I Britain. He is currently academic advisor to the Trades Union Congress on trade union recruitment and is carrying out research under ESRC'sFuture of Work Programme, on trade unions and the representation of 'non-standard' workers. John Salmonis Lecturer in Industrial Relations and Japanese Management at the same institution. He is involved in research on the structure and strategy of the Japanese labor movement.
