About this Item

A volume "From May 5 to May 16, 1925, in commemoration of the centennial year of the graduation of the class of 1825." Includes introductory remarks by Kenneth C. M. Sills, president of Bowdoin College; an address on Hawthorne and Longfellow by Bliss Perry; an address on the class of 1825 by Edward Page Mitchell; and comments by Arthur G. Staples. The front endpaper has a long inscription in ink signed by Staples at the end, saying he'd received a letter on the book from Mitchell (which Staples relates in full). Laid in is a typed letter on Office of the President, Bowdoin College, letterhead, signed at the end by Sills, addressed to Staples, and saying that Sills "was delighted with the copy of the letter from Mr. Mitchell [and] with the book, and am so glad that the Lewiston Journal went ahead with its publication. I hope that the few numbers printed will be quickly taken." So, likely an uncommon title, with some unique connections to Bowdoin College history. Bound in black cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on the front board and spine. Book is unmarked; spine slant; some edgewear at spine ends and corners. No dust jacket. Mylar protected.
