About this Item

first and only edition and printing (not stated); journal; vols. 28-50 (1962-1984), four issues per year; four issues are missing: vol. 29, issue 4 ; vol. 36, issue 3; vol. 39, issue 3; vol 40, number (issue) 4, part 2; and in addition vol. 50, issues 3 and 4 (actually my subscription ended with vol. 49 and the first two issues of vol. 50 were sent as a pilón); for sale are an almost complete set for the twenty-two years starting with 1962, eighty-five issues in all (the monographs which were published separately with their own Part number are not included; I am offering them separately under their author's names and titles); many are Fine, a few show some shelfwear and would be rated a grade or two below that; as a whole, I have rated the entire set as Near Fine; from the library of the linguist Glenn Gilbert; 'The International Journal of American Linguistics publishes studies of all aspects of the native languages of the Americas: description, history, typology, and linguistic theory ' (from inside the front cover of the January 1982 issue); thus, there is a geographical focus on the languages of the New World, especially those of North America, whose study remains largely within the traditions of anthropological linguistics, rather than stemming from theoretical or general linguistics or the study of modern and ancient (European) languages; soft covers are tan with black lettering on the front, back, and spine; an excellent feature is that the contents of each issue are printed for the reader's convenience on the back cover; until 1973, this journal was 'Published at the Waverly Press, Inc. / Mt. Royal and Guilford Aves., Baltimore, Md. 21202 / by Indiana University / under the auspices of Linguistic Society of America / American Anthropological Association / with the cooperation of / Conference on American Indian Languages'; after 1973, the publisher was the University of Chicago Press; through 1973, the height of each issue was 253 millimeters, until 1981 24 centimeters, and beginning in 1982 228 millimeters. Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
