no date, presumed circa 1851. Half black leather with brown cloth. vii, 576 pp. With a few illustrations, including black and white fashion illustrations. A bound volume of this work republishing extracts, condensed versions and commentary on various subjects in literature, art, science, exploration etc. Perhaps notable in this volume is a piece 'The Last Vampire,' by Mrs. Crowe, discussing a supposed historical instance of a vampire in Europe, this being abridged from her work 'Light and Darkness.' Also present is a poem 'Hiram Powers Greek Slave,' by Elizabeth Barret Browning; several pieces by Edward Bulwer Lytton; a piece 'To Charles Dickens,' by Walter Savage Landor; various pieces on history, etc. GOOD+ condition. General fading, minor to moderate scuffing and edgewear. Several ownership signatures present. Minor browning in the interior, with light scattered foxing. Bookseller Inventory # 009646
