Description:

Bound in dark orange cloth with titles and decorations stamped in black.True first edition, with the $2.00 price to the front flap of the jacket, no top stain, and no advertisements. A classic achievement of the Harlem Renaissance. The cloth shows only a hint of wear at the extremities but does have a small fractional split at the head of the spine (see photos). Hinges solid, binding square. Former owner's signature to the front free endpaper, otherwise unmarked. The unclipped dust wrapper has moderate edgewear with a number of small chips, lacking at the most 3/8" at the head of the spine, with a similar chip at the heel. The front panel has one small chip at the lower edge. See the photo of the wrapper verso for complete details. The mostly white rear panel has very light soil. An attractive copy of the first edition, with the jacket now in mylar. See The Cumulative Book Index volumes for 1928-1932 and 1933-1934 for details for the identifying marks of the first versus the second editions. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book Description The Macaulay Company, 1932. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. NO DJ, but it looks like it was lightly pasted in by the flaps before its disposal. Stamps on inside endpapers and boards from "Dr. H.C. Porter & Son (The Old Reliable Drug Store)", more than likely a lending copy. Front and back hinges are loose, the back worse than the front with some of the webbing exposed. Boards are lightly soiled, but in pretty good shape with a little bumping at corners. Text block is clean, besides from the noted stamps, and only lightly yellowed. With a jacket this would be quite a nice copy. Bookseller Inventory # 037947
