Store Description

Charlie Byrne's Bookshop was established in Galway city in 1989. The shop now occupies a 2000 square foot premises on Middle St. and carries approximately 80,000 titles. We sell mainly secondhand books and publisher's overstock, i.e. new books at reduced prices. The latter we choose carefully, stocking what we consider to be interesting titles at good value. Many are sourced from American publishers and university presses, so we carry many titles not found in regular bookshops. We stock a small selection of newly published books at full price. These would include books on Irish archaeology and works by local Galway authors. Most subject areas are covered in the shop, from mysteries and crime writing to philosophy and cultural studies. Our comprehensive selection include sections on Irish and European history, modern literature, Irish fiction, Irish archaeology and literary biography. The shop is popular with both Galwegians and visitors alike. It's a place to spend some leisurely time and where browsing is encouraged. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff are always available to help customers with recommendations.
