Leiden: Bonaventure & Abraham Elzevier, 1652. Folio, [8], 179o col., [248], 62 p., 63-366 col. Full polished calf, rebacked, somewhat dried out at extermities with cracking along edges of spine. Blind-tooling on covers, ruled and decorated in gilt on spine. internally very sound, with some foxing in early leaves but quite clear of discoloration in the text itself. The well-regarded abridgement from Henri Estienne's monumental lexicon. Scapula's edition was used extensively in the 17th and 18th centuries and was reprinted in two volumes by Clarendon Press in 1820. Full leather with burgundy spine label. Ex-library with labels on spine. Bookplate for Bangor Theological Seminary on front pastedown. Opposite endpaper has Maine Charity School written on it in ink. Front endpapers loose and creased. Title page missing. Numerous pages have chewed bottom corners, especially at beginning, with a little loss in text. Some bottom corners in index section have been restored with occasional text added in ink. First page of lexicon soiled. Numerous damp stains. Large chip from column 58. A few spots. Probably the 1652 folio edition of Scapula's Lexicon Graeco-latinum, made by Elzevier in either Amsterdam or Leiden. Section on dialects at rear. Seller Inventory # 6030
