Synopsis: The book/cd set An Irish Tale: Tom Moore & the Seal Woman is a selkie story: a Celtic folk tale of the mythical seal beings. Tom Moore sees a mysterious, beautiful woman asleep on a rock near the shore and, thus, our story begins... Originally recorded in County Kerry, Ireland in the late 1800's by Jeremiah Curtin, author & storyteller Michael R. Kasony-O'Malley gives us a unique & lively retelling of this traditional folk tale. Kasony-O'Malley pays tribute to the original story & the storytellers of old, while breathing fresh life into this tale of love, loss, magic, and enchantment. The vivid & vibrant watercolour images of the artist & illustrator Michael J. Rowland enhance the beauty & depth of An Irish Tale: Tom Moore & the Seal Woman, making this a book that young & old will reach for again & again. Bonus CD! The storytelling tradition continues on the enclosed 60-minute audio CD as Michael Kasony-O'Malley shares 3 versions of An Irish Tale: Tom Moore & the Seal Woman: a reading of the story, a live retelling of the tale, and a special third rendition of the story accompanied by Celtic harp music. The cd also features additional background stories, such as a recounting of the author and illustrator's visit to the village of Kilshanig on the Dingle Peninsula where An Irish Tale: Tom Moore & the Seal Woman takes place. Prepare to enter a mystical world of love and loss and magic and enchantment. Prepare to enter An Irish Tale: Tom Moore & the Seal Woman.
