About this Item

Stated "cheap edition." This is an "expansion of a lecture delivered before the Oxford architectural and historical society at their meeting in June, 1861," says the Preface. First issued in 1862, the year Goldwin Smith traveled to Dublin to visit his friend Cardwell, who was chief secretary for Ireland. DNB says that he "divided the blame for the miseries of Ireland between English misgovernment, which disestablishment of the Irish church and revision of the land laws might correct, and defects of Irish character, which were irremediable." 8vo. [4], 97 pp. NSTC 2S26398. Three-quarter library cloth over marbled paper boards, spine gilt-stamped with the title and author. Bookplate at front pastedown. Tips of outer corners of title-page chipped. Pages clean. Very good. Bookseller Inventory # 13710
