About this Item
Map. Engraving with original hand coloring. Sheet measures 21.25 x 14.75 This beautifully detailed map essentially features two maps on a single sheet. Published by Blackie and Sons in 1859, the left side of the sheet depicts the island of Borneo, while the right hand side of the sheet features the Celebes or Sulawesi Island along with the Moluccas or Maluku Islands. The maps are exceptionally detailed with numbers place names, rivers, mountains and smaller islands labeled. Elevation is rendered by hachure. At the time, the region was controlled mainly by the Dutch, who traded in the various spices found here. Published in "Blackie and Son's Imperial Atlas". The map is in good condition with minor wear along the original centerfold and minimal foxing. Edward Weller (d. 1884) was a prolific publisher and engraver based in London. Seller Inventory # 267808
