About this Item

This family bible contains 14 entries in the "Family Record" section, recording the births and deaths of Isaac Goddard (Jan. 26, 1782 - March 14, 1823) and his wife - Catherine Johnson Goddard (born Dec. 27, 1782, no death recorded). The birth dates of their 7 children who were born between 1807 and 1819 are listed - George Johnson Goddard, Isaac Goddard, Augustus Norton Goddard, Catherine Johnson Goddard, Sarah Goddard, John Goddard, and William Edward Goddard. A number of newspaper clippings from 1901 - 1906 are included. (1) Sarah A. (Ann) Goddard (widow of John Goddard) died at 87 years old on Dec. 10, 1906. She left 2 sons - William E. Goddard, (?) C. Goddard, and a daughter (?) Sibley. (2) Louise Godard (widow of J. H. Tiemeyer of Worcester. Mass.) died in Asheville, N.C. on Dec. 20, 1903 - aged 64 years. She was the daughter of John Goddard and Sarah A. (3) Lucia M. (Miranda) Goddard - the youngest daughter of the late Edward A. Goddard - was married to Clarence E. Sibley in Orange on July 2, 1901. Mr. Sibley was the principal of the high school at Baldwinville. (4) The flower girl at this wedding in 1901 was Marguerite Goddard, the 3 year old daughter of Josiah Goddard of Brockton (Mass.) The bible is bound in full calf. The front cover is detached and the spine ends are chipped and are worn. The bible measures about 8 inches by 10 inches and has 930 pages. From other sources I find that Isaac Goddard (1782-1823) was the son of Stephen Goddard (1741-1820) and his wife Mary (1744-1798), who were married on Feb. 28, 1769 at Leicester, Mass. They had 9 children born betwen 1769 and 1788 - Mary Goddard, John, Stephen, Sarah, Stephen (2), David, Isaac, Benjamin, and Elizabeth. Bookseller Inventory # 12162
