The Isthmus of Nova Scotia. Chignecto, the North East Branch of the Bay of Fundy is Navigable up to Cumberland, Petcudiac, Etc. Tides flow here with great rapidity, and rise at Equinoctial Times from 60 to 70 feet perpendicular. By the means of these high Tides, the Bason of Mines and several fine Rivers which discharge themselves about the Head of the Bay of Fundy are rendered Navigable. The Gulf of St. Lawrence Tides in Bay Verte, on the North East of the Isthmus, rise only 8 Feet.--Plate 7.
