Folio. (111)pp. One of 120 copies, signed by the author. A collection of 100 samples of papers made in the city of Izumo in Shimane prefecture, Japan. The papers come in a variety of colors and textures: some are translucent with fragments of colored paper embedded in the fibers, or have a soft, crinkled surface. Others, including the paper used for the endpapers, layer different colors of fibers to evoke clouds or mountains, or to make circular patterns. The author, Eshiro Abe, was a renowned Japanese papermaker who was named a "Living National Treasure" in 1968. He was born and lived his entire life in the Shimane prefecture, where these paper samples are from. A few light spots of foxing to fore-edge, else fine in light red stab-sewn wrappers with a printed paper label to the front cover. In a brown cloth chemise with the title printed in gold, which closed with bone clasps, and with the original box and shipping carton. Bookseller Inventory #
