Laid-in is an autographed letter signed (i.e. ALS) from Dumas Malone to "Mr. Rosenberger" (historian Francis Coleman Rosenberger). Single sheet, H 21cm x L 14.75cm, faintly toned and folded horizontally in half. Letterhead of the Salzburg Seminar in American Studies, Salzburg, Austria. Seventeen lines of handwritten text: "August 6, 1952. | Dear Mr. Rosenberger: | Your letter of Jul 23 finally reached | me here. I think the History Book | Club might well [consider?] the | Jefferson Reader. The person to | write is | . . . | I won't be back till Sept. 23, | but I'll drop him a line + tell | him I myself like the idea. . . . | Dumas Malone." Brief but intriguing content in that the letter references THE JEFFERSON READER compiled and edited by Rosenberger prior to its 1953 publication by E.P. Dutton. Rosenberger also edited many annual volumes of the Columbia Historical Society which are a treasure trove of Washington DC local history. Bookseller Inventory #
