First edition. 210pp. Folio [24 cm] Red cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the spine and front board. Photographically illustrated endpapers showing a view of the mountains of Judae taken from the synagogue of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center. Very good. There are a couple faint 4" scratches on the front board, and the preliminary pages have two tiny prior ownership stamps. In a very good dust jacket, with only minor edge wear, and with the publisher's original thin card slipcase, in very good minus condition, with periodic closed edge tears (the longest measures 4"). Translated from the French by Elaine Desautels. With two original Chagall lithographs created especially for this book and printed by Mourlot Frères. Bookseller Inventory # 51475
