xvi, 325 pages. Paperback: H 23.25cm x L 15.5cm. Original dark tan paper covers toned with some soiling, heavy wear along edges as the originally overlapping covers are now mostly worn even with the text block with several chips and 2cm triangular loss at bottom corner of rear cover, tape repairs at spine ends and at top edge of rear cover. Past owner's initials and date discreetly written in ink on half-title page. Light bumping to top corners of leaves with top corners of pages 195-198 creased. Interior pages are overall quite clean and binding remains fairly firm. A good copy. Quoted from the Preface: "The purpose of this study is to present the Jolliet-Marquette expedition of 1673 in its proper historical setting . . . Three distinct problems concerning the expedition of 1673 stand out . . . Is it correct to say that on this occasion the French 'discovered' the Mississippi River? Then, who is to be regarded as the leader of the enterprise, Marquette or Jolliet? Finally, was the narrative of the expedition, as it exists to-day, written by Marquette?". Bookseller Inventory #
