About this Item

Document measures 7 1/4 x 9 1/2, on three pages; fourth page has notation regarding travel expenses (for a total cost of $0.81). Small hole in middle of pages affecting some text. Handwriting with much flourish. Huntington (1788-1847) was a Congressman from Connecticut (1829-34) and later a U. S. Senator (1840-47). In this interesting decree, signed by Huntington early in his legal career, the sheriff of New London County is summoned to bring to court one Jonathan Wilkinson of North Stonington for passing a counterfeit bank note. The plaintiff is a James Lanman (1769-1841), also later a U. S. Senator from Connecticut (1819-25). The decree states that the $2.00 bank note is "feigned, false and counterfeit and not worth a farthing". Bookseller Inventory # 5043
