About this title

Synopsis:

Private ownership of handguns was banned in the UK in the 1990's, on the grounds that gun crime would be reduced. Thousands of law-abiding pistol owners were deprived of their hobby and gun collections. But not all of them cooperated fully. In 2002 the British tabloid press had a field day when two teachers, respectable middle-class professional men in their fifties, were jailed after police raids on their homes uncovered secret 'hoards' of weapons. This books desribes a teacher's experience of prison and how he adapted to to his new circumstances, new friends, new status. Part diary, part tale of adventure and discovery, full of interesting characters, rogues and villains it also casts a skeptical eye on many aspects of modern British society. Life behind bars proved less stressful than teaching in some of today's unruly classrooms. On the streets, gun-crime is at an all-time high and rising......
