Original yellow cloth with brown lettering on front cover and spine. 6 1/4 X 9 1/4 inches. 558 pages which include 15 pages of Index. Copy has 25 black and white photographs with 2 colored illustrations, 1 of John A Sutter and one of James W. Marshall. Marshall (1810-1885) was an American carpenter and sawmill operator, who reported the finding of gold at Coloma on the American River in California on Jan. 24, 1848, the impetus for the California Gold Rush. This copy begins with Marshall's boyhood and family and continues on through the remaining of his life. Copy is in very good condition. Pages are very clean as is the dust jacket.
