About this Item
nFINE. Green cloth boards, gold embossed titling. Map endpapers. A very tightly worded and carefully book written after World War I - there are passages that clearly express Japan's viewe of America's expansionist efforts in the Pacific, foreshadowing it's 'forced response' to militarily re-take territories and protect itself. Japan is restricted from re-inforcing existing fortifications in the Pacific, while "America is allowed that right with regard to the Hawaiian group." "The naval base in the Phillipines has not yet assumed such a magnitude as to inspire fear in the Japanese mind. Although the fortifications there are understood to be formidable (potentially affecting) Japan's safety." . The United States was staking claim to the Pacific. Japan felt pressured immediately after WW I because of this. Important between the World Wars work about international Pacific region politics. Scarce high grade copy for archivist or historian.
