Book Description Harcourt, Brace & World. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. From the private library of noted Civil War book collector, Edward G. Bailey (who inscribed each volume), and with an additional volume (the Letters) that came originally from the library of noted Civil War historian and scholar, Bell I. Wiley. Linen call number labels at spines of three of four volumes (not the Letters), and with Wiley's extensive comments and annotations throughout the text of Letters, but beginning with a lengthy diatribe at endpapers, a quite personal assessment of the author as a man and as a scholar. Published in New York by Harcourt, Brace & Company in, respectively, 1955 (Fifth Printing of the First Edition), 1959 (Later Printing), 1964 (First Edition), and 1966 (First Edition).
