Book Description Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc., Indianapolis, 1952. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. 206 pages. Library rebound in sturdy green buckram printed with a picture in yellow, white and brown, lettering in white colour on front and spine. No jacket; front and back flap text cut and pasted to front endpapers. Binding is tight and the buckram, chosen by libraries for its virtual indestructibility, is only a little worn at extremities. Further library signifiers limited to a few inkstamps on prelims and rear endpaper and one on an internal margin; cataloguing letters neatly on spine in white ink; card and date due slips removed from rear endpapers leaving a small amount of residue. Former owner's name on rear endpaper as well. Pages are reasonably clean, but a number of small smudges or stains (affecting about one page in ten) and one page-turning tear attest to the book's age. There is no statement of edition status, but a librarian's note of "1963" probably indicates its date of acquisition. Overall, a sturdy reading copy good for at least another generation or two of use and enjoyment. Set in the summer of 1910: Jennifer is raising Sir Prize, her pet bull calf, to exhibit at the County Fair. But in her absorbtion with her pleasant plans, she pays little attention to neighbourhood rumours and a few suspicious incidents. It is almost too late when she realizes that danger threatens Sir Prize, and perhaps the entire Hill family. Ex-Library. Bookseller Inventory # C702924
