Front pastedown with inked ownership inscription dated 1837; verso of final page with early inked ownership inscription also. D., and his Induction as President of the College. The Second Edition.Alexander Proudfit, D.D. (1770-1843) was born in Pequea, Pennsylvania. In his youth he moved with his family to Salem, N.Y., where his father pastored an Associate Reformed church. He was educated at Columbia College, New York. After graduation, he undertook theological studies, was eventually licensed and was called by the congregation of Salem to work as a colleague with his father. Dr. Proudfit saw a number of his sermons published, and he wrote a good number of published tracts. One of Dr. Proudfit s acquaintances said of him, "I was greatly struck by his staid and impressive manner, the kindliness of his spirit, and above all by the depth and fervour of his religious feelings.
