Two small cracks in spine, hardly visible. Tissue guard protecting the image of Jesus is creased, small spot on the tissue guard and the facing (title) page. . Long poem with an Afterword by Stratton-Porter concerning the ancient Christian legend of Lentulus, an envoy of Tiberius Caesar, who was sent by Caesar to report on what he could learn about Jesus. Upon hearing of the beauty of Jesus, Caesar called a master craftsman to carve the true likeness of Jesus on a large emerald. Bound in paper vellum boards decorated with the spectacular carved emerald and the chain to which it is attached. A lovely, nearly perfect copy. The noted defects are quite minor. Does not include box or glassine wrapper. Scarce, especially in this condition. Near Fine, gift quality.
