Three of six volumes made possible through a bequest in the will of the late Leon Huhner providing for the publication of various historical and literary works written by him. Articles included in the first two volumes have previously been published in the "Publications of the American Jewish Historical Society from 1900 to 1917.Introduction of various prominent Jewish figures, e.g. Asser Levy, one of the first Jewish settlers of the Dutch colony New Amsterdam, Francis Salvador, the first Jew to be elected to public office in the colonies and the first Jew killed in the American Revolutionary War, among others as well as writings about Jews in the various colonies. The second volume focusses on struggles for religious liberty in North Carolina with special reference to the Jews, Jewish associates of the abolitionist John Brown and David L. Yulee, Florida's first senator of Jewish descent. Volume three elaborated on college education in colonial times, Jews in New York in the arts, sciences, Jewish women in America and the Jews in Newport. Bindings with light wear along edges.
