The book is divided into four sections - First, the life and history of Jim Thorpe; Second, the history of the Jim Thorpe Award - given annually (since 1986) to college football's outstanding defensive back; Third, the first twenty (20) winners of the Jim Thorpe Award; and finally, listing of all awards. In addition, the book covers all the various Bright Path Youth Programs. Bright Path (Jim Thorpe's Indian name) youth Programs and scholarships are given annually by the Jim Thorpe Association.

About the Author:

Bob Burke - a member of the Board of Directors of the Jim Thorpe Association, has written or co-written more historical non-fiction books than anyone else in history. A native of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, he now practices law and writes books in Oklahoma City where he lives with wife, Chimene. His 77 books are all about Oklahoma and have won many awards. His is father to Robert, Amy and Cody, step-father to Natalie, Lauren, and Callie, and grandfather to Nathan, Jon, and Ridge. Greg Slavonic - Rear Admiral, USN (Ret), is Executive Director of the Jim Thorpe Association. He earned a Masters degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, which honored him as Distinguished Alumnus. His undergraduate degree is from Oklahoma State University. He is a 34-year Navy veteran with service in three wars, Vietnam, Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His last three assignments included Deputy Chief of Information (Pentagon, Washington, D.C.), Director Navy Reserve Public Affairs (New Orleans) and was the first U.S. Navy flag officer assigned to Multinational Force - Iraq (Baghdad, Iraq) where he served as Director of Public Affairs for the Commanding General. An avid sports fan, he and his wife, Molly, live in Oklahoma City and have three children Kara, Maggie, and Blake who is married to Kasey and they have a son Hogan.
