Extremely rare copy of a signed, stated first edition. Hardcover in very good condition with edge wear on the head and tail of binding and some corner wear, the titles are all dark and bright and the color of the clothe covered boards is a strong red, inside is whistle-clean and unmarked, the maps in the front and back paste-downs and end-papers are in fine condition as are the contents with 26 illustrations in doubletone. The fore-edges and top-edges and bottom-edges are all clean and in very good = condition. The front and back hinges are starting to open. This is a great read about Jimmy Radboone or Radburn, an Englishman who settled in Patagonia at the start of the 20th-century when he was about 18. He became a gaucho and a great horseman, and made a life and reputation in the wide-open vastness of Patagonia. Along with the indigenous gauchos he survived the lawlessness and extreme conditions of this magical and harsh landscape. The photographs in doubletone are magnificent. Quite a gem of a story and told in the style of Jimmy himself, Herbert Childs did a great service to capture the gist and history of 1900-1932 in Patagonia. Includes a 4 page glossary at the back.398 pages. Bookseller Inventory #
