About this title

Synopsis:

"The Jitterbug Girl" is a funny, happy memoir about what it was like to be a teenager living in a small American town and belonging to a large Catholic family in the early 1950s. You will laugh out loud and remember yourself as an adolescent while reading this teenager’s ramblings on everything from necking and petting to Joseph McCarthy’s assertion that Marilyn Monroe might be a Communist.

About the Author:

Donna Van Straten (Remmert) is a former journalist and teacher celebrating her life by writing memoir. Her first book, "The Littlest Big Kid" is about being a kid in the early 1940s. A light-hearted musical play written by award-winning playwright Paullette MacDougal and entitled "The Littlest Big Kid - The Musical", is based on Donna’s memoir. Her work with this organization is dedicated to helping other women tell their stories. Donna also teaches dream understanding for personal growth.

Donna and her husband of 43 years live in Austin, TX. They have two married sons and an adorable granddaughter who will one day giggle as she reads about her grandma’s antics as a little kid and then as a sassy teenager. Donna plans to write about her entire life. The appeal of her stories is the way in which she expresses the fascination and beauty of living an ordinary life, back when life was a lot different than it is today.
