About this Item

B00S5I2YDU 1997 Belwin-Mills Publishing Corp. / Warner Bros. (Miami, Fla.), 9 x 12 inches tall paperbound in white printed covers, 140 pp. Slight staining, rubbing and edgewear to covers. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this version of the famed Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook. OCLC (No. 38236133) only locates copies at about a dozen institutions worldwide. A Belwin classic edition. Contains pieces originally for harpsichord solo, songs with continuo (realized for keyboard instrument), and chorales. ~SP17~ Anna Magdalena Bach (1701-1760) was an accomplished singer and the second wife of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. This manuscript notebook of music, presented by J.S. Bach to Anna in 1725, is a compilation of music by both Bach and other composers of the era. It provides a nearly unparalleled glimpse into the domestic music of the eighteenth century and the musical tastes of the Bach family. The authorship of several pieces is identified in the notebook itself, while that of others was established by researchers. The composers of still others, including several popular songs of the time, remain unknown. This version includes a five-page preface in English. Among the pieces in this compilation: Keyboard partita in A minor, BWV 827; Keyboard partita in E minor, BWV 830; Minuet in F major, BWV Anh. 113; Minuets in G major and G Minor, BWV Anh. 114/115, usually attributed to Christian Petzold; Rondeau in B-flat major, BWV Anh. 183, by Francois Couperin; Minuet in G major, BWV Anh. 116; Polonaise in F major, BWV Anh. 117a/117b; Polonaise in G minor, BWV Anh. 119; Chorale prelude 'Wer nur den lieben Gott lasst walten,' BWV 691; Chorale setting 'Gib dich zufrieden und sei stille'; Minuet in C minor, BWV Anh. 121; March in D major, BWV Anh. 122, usually attributed to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach; Polonaise in G minor, BWV Anh. 123, usually attributed to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach; March in G major and Polonaise in G minor, BWV Anh. 124/125, usually attributed to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach; Aria 'So oft ich meine Tobackspfeife'; Menuet fait par Mons. Bohm, by Georg Bohm; Musette in D major, BWV Anh. 126; March in E-flat major, BWV Anh. 127; (Polonaise) in D minor, BWV Anh. 128; Aria 'Bist du bei mir,' BWV 508, melody by Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel; Polonaise in G major, BWV Anh. 130, possibly composed by Johann Adolph Hasse; Prelude in C major, BWV 846/1; Keyboard suite in D minor, BWV 812; and many others.
