Front shows portrait of John Hay, text reads John Hay / The Rowfant Club Cleveland, Ohio; verso shows image of classic female figure with globe of the Americas, contemplating a map of the china coastline, text reads Open Door in the Far East. One of 170 struck at the U. S. Mint for Ambrose Swasey of the Rowfant Club. The Hay Medal designed and executed by Victor David Brenner, best known as the designer of the Lincoln penny.
