A comprehensive volume offering insight into the rich and diverse architectural career of John Lautner, an influential American architect whose work in Southern California is known for its progressive engineering, design, and space-age motifs. Lautner studied at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin Fellowship for six years in the 1930s, along with other great artists and architects like E. Fay Jones, Paolo Soleri and Santiago Martinez Delgado. Some of LautnerÕs most famous designs include the Bob Hope residence in Palm Springs, the Elrod Residence which was used in the 1971 James Bond film ÔDiamonds Are ForeverÕ, the iconic Googie's Coffee Shop (at the corner of Sunset Strip and Crescent Heights in Los Angeles). Illustrated throughout with color and black & white photographs, 32 of which are by Julius Shulman whose interest in architectural photography was inspired through a chance meeting with renowned architect Richard Neutra.
