About this title

The author's treatment of this foremost American painter is unique among critical studies of Marin in that it comes to grips with the fundamental problem of broad relationships raised by the artist's work. Reich tackles such questions as how Marin relates to the Post-Impressionists, the Expressionists, the Cubists, the Futurists, and other schools. The Catalogue Raisonne in the second volume is likewise unique in the broad scope of its coverage. Marin's oils, less well known than his watercolors, are included in its nearly 3,000 entries of which 1,975 are illustrated in the Catalogue itself. 2 volumes, 7.5x11", xiii+891 pp., b&w illustrations, 8 pp. in color.
