Synopsis: This book is the psychological and inspirational handbook for hope and healing for those involved with joint pain, surgeries, and replacements. It supports the global nonprofit corporation, Our Joint Decisions, Inc. NFP, founded by Bob and Leah Faught. Their mission is a patient educating patients to achieve pain-free mobility and a higher quality of life. Their primary focus is psychological and inspirational motivation through their principles of success called the CORE ROADS TO LIFE. This allows the patient to make the best Joint Decisions with their doctor, caregiver, family, and friends. They educate and motivate the patients and their team by replacing fear with knowledge, and demonstrate the immense power of MIND OVER BODY. There are no statistics for those patients that vow never to see their doctors, no matter how bad the pain; or those who refuse to follow through on their diagnosis, especially when surgery is required. This is where Bob and Our Joint Decisions wants to educate and motivate the patient and their caregivers to take charge of their life. The patient has full control of their body. This is why Bob uses the automobile analogy throughout this book. No one would drive their car with a flat tire, since this would cause further damage and misalignment. Why then, do many not address the joint pain that causes them great discomfort in life? This book helps answer this and other vital questions patients, caregivers, and their support teams have in helping the patient achieve pain-free mobility and a higher quality of life. Bob has incorporated prose, poetry, and personal stories to illustrate the key points he makes throughout the book. Bob wrote a complete poem, called The Road of Life, and incorporated two stanzas at the beginning of each chapter. His personal stories range from his childhood days in Boy Scouts all the way through his many journeys in global business. Almost all websites, books, and articles that address patients overcoming joint pain focus on diagnosis and prognosis. This knowledge is critical in a patient's research to understand their diagnosis, and the solutions their doctor has prescribed. This is why Our Joint Decisions' book includes one chapter specifically on musculoskeletal issues, from arthritis, joint surgery, to joint replacement. This information is from the websites of highly valued Professional Health Organizations who strive to educate patients everyday. Bob's personal stories from his Road of Life, along with his 30 plus years as a patient, give great depth, texture, and insight to understanding the challenges we face everyday. These personal stories also stir excitement throughout the book, seeing challenges and solutions from many different perspectives. Bob confirms in this book his strength as a Patient's Advocate for the remainder of his life. Through Bob's motivational speaking city by city, Bob and Leah are working to establish a National Joint Support Group in the U.S. and Canada.
About the Author: Bob Faught is a patient, author, motivational speaker, international businessman, and Co-Founder of Our Joint Decisions, Inc. NFP with his wife, Leah. Bob has experienced over thirty years of successful joint surgeries; with eight knee surgeries, including two total knee replacements, a total right hip replacement, and shoulder surgery. Each time he recovered quickly to pain-free mobility and a higher quality of life. For example, in his total knee replacements in 2000 and 2003, he returned to work in two weeks. In his total right hip replacement in 2006, he had surgery on a Friday morning, and was walking on his own power by Sunday. He was released from the hospital on Monday at noon, and returned to work that afternoon in no pain. He took one and one-half days off work for a total hip replacement. Bob shares the secrets for his success through the CORE ROADS TO LIFE and MIND OVER BODY; using his proven principles for any challenge in our lives. Bob's international business career has allowed Bob and Leah to live and work overseas. This has given them the unique opportunity to see how different cultures handle joint pain, surgeries, and replacements in their health care systems. For example, during the years they lived in Tokyo, Japan, Bob was able to speak with orthopedic surgeons in Japan and throughout Asia and learn their perspectives on managing joint pain, surgeries, and replacements. Bob also has had the opportunity to establish global distribution partners for multiple companies. Bob and Leah learned that the customs and cultures within each country or region showed varied differences in the quantity and responsiveness of joint pain due to diet, exercise, and other regimens practiced. Bob has become a strong Patient Advocate for those patients involved in joint pain, surgeries, and replacements. Most patients, if they follow-through on their diagnosis, want to forget about it and move on. Bob has chosen to take action to support other patients. He has helped co-found a nonprofit organization focused on educating and motivating patients and their support teams. He has produced educational and motivational DVDs to provide added support for doctors, medical teams, and hospitals with their patients. Now, he has written a handbook that insures patients, especially those who have vowed not to see their doctors or follow through on their diagnosis, can find the hope and healing they need. Also, through Bob's motivational speaking, Bob and Leah are working to establish a National Joint Support Group within North America that can energize the necessary support within every community. With the support of patients and their teams, doctors, medical centers, hospitals, professional health organizations, medical equipment manufacturers, health insurance companies, foundations, and corporations, Our Joint Decisions, Inc. NFP will bring the patient's passion to insure patients can achieve pain-free mobility and a higher quality of life.
