About this Item

This 1860 Bible contains the family records of her parents and brothers and sisters, inscribed by a married daughter. Her father was Joshua M Smith of Sanborton, N.H., born in 1799, who first married in 1825 Sally Smith (born May 9, 1800) of Sanborton, N.H., and who next married in either 1828 or 1848 Priscilla P. Smith (born Nov. 11, 1804) of Chichester, N.H. There are 9 birth records with dates for the children, who were born between 1826 and 1844, all in Sanborton, N.H., being Charles W. Smith, Sarah B. Smith, Abigail Smith, Winthrop H. Smith, George H. P. Smith, George H. Smith, Julian Smith, Joseph E. Smith, and Mary J. Smith. The Bible first belonged to Sarah B. Sanborn (Smith) and her husband Wilbur F. Babbitt of Danville, N.H. who were married on Oct. 28, 1857 in Lowell, Ma. Sarah B. next married Mr. Salathiel Moor in either 1860 or 1866 in Sanborton, N.H. Sarah B. next married Thomas Keay (or Reay) of Nashua, N.H. on May 25, 1878. The entries include 5 marriage records, 15 birth records, and 6 death records. The Bible is bound in full leather, the leather of which is very rubbed, worn, dry, and flaking. The spine is very chipped. The front cover is just held on by the binding cords, and the back cover is almost fully detached. The front cover has the gilt lettering "Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Babbitt".
