Book Description Fairfield, WA: Ye Galleon Press, 1969, Fairfield, WA, 1969. Pictorial Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Numbered. Pictorial Cloth. Very Good. Numbered. 8vo - over 7_" - 9_" tall. 62 p. "Of this book 488 copies were printed. This is Copy number 354." Despite brevity and erratic spelling, this journal is interesting and revealing. Like numerous others, Casler started out with Pikes Peak gold fever, but by the time he got to Fort Laramie learned that was a "humbug," so headed for California, even though the "gold rush" there was eleven years old. On the other hand, near Red Buttes he met "California Pike's Peakers" heading for Colorado. Casler was of an agreable nature, grub-staking fellow pilgrims "out of provisions and barefooted," and helping others repair broken wheels and "axle-trees." There are only two copies of the original edition [Toledo, Ohio, 1863] known to exist. Ref.: Howes C220; Wagner-Camp 385; Mattes 1671. [Loc.Rare]. Seller Inventory # 001269
